Over 50 years ago, the Baekgaard Collection was created by Danish immigrant and WWII veteran Peer Baekgaard. In the 1950s, Peer arrived in New York City with a dozen hand-carved wooden toy boats and a dream. Without an appointment, he walked into the famed FAO Schwarz, and the buyer was so impressed with the craftsmanship of the toy boats that he bought all that Peer had. That day, Baekgaard, Ltd. was born. Today, Baekgaard is one of the finest importers, manufacturers and distributors of gifts, games, artwork, and men?s accessories. In 2003, Peer sold the business to his wife, Barbara Bradley Baekgaard (co-founder of Vera Bradley) and family friend, Art Mandelbaum.
For 57 years, Baekgaard has built a reputation for its quality and excellence. We remain dedicated to continuing this heritage while enhancing our collection of fine gifts and accessories.
